What is Strapping Tape?
Strapping tape also goes by the name of filament tape. Multiple packaging functions use this pressure-sensitive tape. Some of these functions includes:
- closing corrugated fiberboard boxes
- reinforcing packages
- pallet utilizing
- bundling items
It consists of a pressure-sensitive adhesive coated onto a backing material. A variety of grades are available that have varying degrees of tensile strength.
Strapping tape is most often used as a closure for corrugated boxes. These box types include full overlap boxes, five-panel folders, and full telescope boxes. You place the tape in “L” shaped clips or strips over the overlapping flaps to properly secure the box. And you can trust this tape if you need to reinforce for heavy loads or weak box construction. Typically, it is applied manually with a stationary dispenser. However, it is more typically applied with a handheld tape dispenser. This allows the user a more efficient method of placing the tape on the box, cutting it off, and rubbing it down.
